Waste, Fraud, Abuse

Many people have pointed out how Musk/Trump have personally benefited.

Let’s take a look

Waste

Let’s begin with the firing of 17 Inspectors General.

Their job is to prevent and detect fraud, waste, abuse, misconduct, and mismanagement in the government and to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in our agency’s operations and programs.

Why would they fire the very people who diligently protect the public from Waste, Fraud and Abuse?

Also fired was the head of the Office of Special Counsel, which handled federal employee complaints and government whistleblowers, and the director of the Office of Government Ethics.

Above are just a few examples of key oversight positions being eliminated.

USAID – Some $489 million in food being stored around the world is going to waste because of paralysis at the US’ international development agency (USAID),

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has doubled its budget from $6.75 million to about $14.4 million just weeks after its inception.

Fraud

Overstatement of Musk/DOGE savings

Musk Watch reports that DOGE consistently overstates its projected savings by huge margins.  It could only identify $12 Billion in actual savings  of the $115 Billion in savings that DOGE claims,

When confronted by this significant mismatch, DOGE changed the way it reported savings to obfuscate fact-checking.

Musk’s DOGE force has dramatically overstated their savings to the taxpayers. It should also be noted that canceling a contract that has been fully executed does not generate savings.

Doge is currently claiming it has succeeded in lopping $65bn from federal spending, a sharp rise from its earlier figure of $55bn. Yet the itemized savings listed on the “wall of receipts” have plummeted since the deletions from $16.6bn to $9.6bn.

The largest of the five vanishing “savings” was a $1.9bn item listed as a cut at the treasury department. That was based on a contract that was cancelled last year, at a time when Joe Biden was in the White House.

The fundamental question is why is it important for DOGE to dramatically overstate its projected savings. Do they not understand what they are doing or are they hiding the real reasons for cuts?

Abuse

Is Musk benefiting personally from his DOGE program?

Many of  Musk’s Companies are regulated by government agencies that are being dismantled.

FAA’s $2 Billion update program is under attack and may be moved to Musk’s Starlink.

Musk this week criticized the FAA’s air traffic control network, writing on X that the “Verizon system is not working and so is putting air travelers at serious risk.”  He later acknoweeged that the system he was critizing is not operted by Verizon.

Bloomberg News reported on Monday that Musk last week approved 4,000 Starlink terminals to be shipped to the FAA for testing, citing a person familiar with the matter.

The FAA told CBS News that “no decisions have been made” about a long-term contract to upgrade its air traffic control systems.

False reasons for terminations

They are terminating people who are easiest to fire and not due to poor performance. In fact, some of the probationary employees were recently promoted to new positions. Many people feel this is an abuse of the system.

Many of the government employees who are being terminated are probationary workers. This does not mean that they are part-time or less important than established workers. It is just a classification that is easier to terminate. Many newly promoted workers can become probationary employees once assuming new responsibilities.

A probationary employee is often a recent hire to the agency or a long-serving employee who was moved or promoted into a new position. They are put on a “probationary” period that typically lasts for one or two years, though it can be longer at some agencies. It’s like a trial period during which the worker and their performance are under heightened scrutiny.

Consumer Financial  Protection Bureau.

It was recently disbanded. This is the agency that would have overseen Musk’s foray into X Money.

Access to secret government databases.

In addition to feeding Musk’s AI program, his unfettered access to top-secret government databases gives him unparalleled access to competitive information.

Is Trump benefiting personally from his Presidency?

Since his return to office, which has netted him and his family nearly $80 million so far, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis.

That includes donations to his future presidential library and a hefty $10 million settlement with Elon Musk’s X. That sum doesn’t include the millions the president and first lady have each netted from “meme coin” cryptocurrency ventures, a blatant means of scamming MAGA supporters.

Melania’s upcoming Amazon documentary may be one of the most obviously corrupt deals. The first lady is reportedly getting over 70 percent of the $40 million, and her agent is trying to sell “sponsorships” to executives and billionaires for the movie, with $10 million as the starting price. In return, these sponsors would get thanked in the credits and be invited to the premiere.
